5|15 Most to Be Pitied
Notes
What if the resurrection isn’t true?
In this sobering fifth week, Paul confronts the Corinthians (and us) with the devastating consequences: those who have “fallen asleep” in Christ have simply perished, and if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are of all people most to be pitied.
This message challenges comfortable, this-life-only Christianity. It calls us to live with resurrection reality — sacrificing now, serving quietly, rejecting sin, and storing up treasure in the age to come — because everything changes when we know we will rise again.
Death is sleep for the believer. The best is yet to come. And that hope makes every cost worth it.
"[If Christ is not raised,] then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied" (1 Co 15:18–19).
