We collect and handle personal information in line with the 13 information privacy principles in the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ). In practice, that means:
We only collect information we genuinely need for the purposes set out in this policy
We collect it directly from you wherever we can, and tell you why at the point we ask
We only use or disclose it for those purposes, or for a directly related purpose you would reasonably expect
We rely on your consent for our newsletter, push notifications, and any other optional communications, and you can withdraw that consent at any time
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:
Service providers who help us operate the Service (e.g. website hosting, email delivery, analytics, and the church management systems we use), who are bound by confidentiality obligations
Law enforcement or regulators where required by law or to protect rights and safety
A successor entity if we sell or transfer all or part of our business
Any third parties we engage are required to handle your information consistently with this policy.
Some of our service providers are located outside New Zealand. Where we transfer personal information overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives comparable protection — including contractual safeguards — consistent with information privacy principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 10).
Account information is retained for the duration of your account and for a reasonable period afterwards. Contact form and newsletter submissions are stored in our content management system and kept until we no longer need them for the purpose you sent them, or until you ask us to delete them.
We use a small number of cookies to operate the Service. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share cookie data.
A session cookie, which keeps the site working as you move between pages
A security token cookie, which protects our forms against cross-site request forgery
Both are essential and cannot be disabled. We do not set analytics, preference, or marketing cookies of our own.
Our website statistics come from a self-hosted installation of OpenPanel, which measures page views and link clicks without setting cookies on your device or tracking you across other websites.
Some pages embed content from third parties, which may set their own cookies once that content loads (see Section 13). You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although doing so may affect how parts of the Service work.
Under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ), you have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
Ask us to delete your information (subject to legal retention obligations)
Withdraw consent for marketing at any time
Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we have breached the Act
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 20 working days as required by the Act.
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), access controls, and regular security reviews.
No method of internet transmission is completely secure. In the event of a notifiable privacy breach, we will comply with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ), including notifying affected individuals and the Privacy Commissioner where required.
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
The Service links to third-party websites, and some pages embed content hosted by third parties, including YouTube videos and Mapbox maps. Embedded content is loaded directly from those providers and may set cookies or collect device information as soon as the page loads, before you interact with it.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those providers or of any site we link to, and we encourage you to review their policies before providing personal information.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Service before the changes take effect. Where we hold your email address, for example if you subscribe to our newsletter or have an account in our app, we will also notify you by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this policy reflects the most recent revision.
Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
For questions about this policy or to exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
