Visiting Redeemer Church Tauranga
If you have never been to Redeemer before, this page tells you what to expect, so that nothing about Sunday morning catches you off guard.
We are a church of around 100 people meeting in the Tauranga CBD. There are young families, older couples, and plenty in between. However long it has been since you last set foot in a church, you are welcome here.
Finding us
We meet at 56 Second Avenue, in the Tauranga CBD, right next door to The Tool Shed. Get directions.
Parking is the easy part. Council street parking in the CBD is free on Sundays, so you can park on the street nearby and walk in.
Come any time from 10am. There is tea and coffee on before the service, which is the easiest time to turn up if you would rather not walk into a room that has already started.
You will see people at the door and usually a few standing out on the footpath. Come in through the Second Avenue street entrance and someone will point you where you need to go. The service starts at 10.30am.
What we won't do
Worth saying plainly, because it is what most people are quietly wondering:
We will not ask you to stand up and introduce yourself
There is no connect card to fill in
You are welcome to come, sit at the back, take it in, and head off again without speaking to anyone. Nobody will chase you.
What happens in the service
Our services are simple: singing, prayer, the Lord’s Supper, and the teaching of the Bible. They run a little over an hour.
The singing is led from a piano or guitar, and we sing a mix of modern songs and older hymns. The sermon runs about 45 minutes. We work through whole books of the Bible a passage at a time, so what you hear is shaped by the text rather than by whatever happens to be topical that week. You can listen to recent sermons to get a feel for it before you come.
We take the Lord’s Supper every week. The table is open to all who profess Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
Most people dress casually. Dress up or dress down, whichever you are most comfortable in.
Coming with children
Children are always welcome to stay with you in the service.
There is also a programme for children up to Year 6, who head out partway through the service and come back before the end. Kids from Year 7 up stay in for the whole service although we have an intermediate programme every couple of weeks.
When you come in through the Second Avenue street entrance, the welcome team can direct you to the children’s area. There is a mother’s room just outside the sanctuary.

After the service
Nothing formal, but most people stay and talk for a while. If you want to find someone to talk to, or you would rather slip away quietly, both are completely fine.
We also put on a newcomers lunch from time to time, which is a low-key way to meet people properly.
If you cannot make it in person
The service is streamed live on YouTube at 10.30am each Sunday, and the sermon audio goes up on this site afterwards.
