Advent 2025 #3 — Adoration and Worship
Notes
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Lk 2:11.
In this third Advent sermon at Redeemer, Aidan unpacks Luke 2:11—“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord”—breaking the angel’s announcement into six powerful phrases to reveal why Jesus’ birth is the ultimate reason for adoration and worship this Christmas season. He reminds us that the gospel is “good news of great joy” far surpassing holiday rest or festivities, a personal gift “unto you” that reaches every individual, nation, and the whole world, the long-awaited offspring fulfilling ancient promises from Genesis to David, born in Bethlehem as the prophesied ruler from Judah, our Savior who rescues us from sin when we could never save ourselves, the anointed Messiah who perfectly serves as prophet, priest, and king, and finally the sovereign Lord—God himself—who humbled himself to enter his creation, live, suffer, die, and rise for our salvation.
Amid the busyness, stress, or sorrow that Christmas can bring, this truth calls us to pause like the shepherds, receive the news afresh, and adore the One who is worthy of all praise this Advent.
