Meet your Neighbour... Steven Grant

I came to faith at 17 and was baptised soon after. It wasn't really until Sarah and I were expecting our first child, about six years later, that I started to take ownership of my faith more seriously.

Two years. Sarah and I moved to Tauranga from Scotland in 2024. I had a bit of a connection with Anthony, the previous pastor, so Redeemer felt like a natural place to try. We loved the teaching and haven't left.

To my shame, I'd never read Ecclesiastes properly until our current series. I'm something of a pragmatist, and I've found Ecclesiastes to be a good reminder of the reality of our human condition.

I talk, yes literally, to a computer all day and have it write code to build websites and mobile apps for businesses and ministry.

AI is significantly changing the way I work right now. I can't imagine life without it.

Significantly. Colossians says:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

That shapes the work itself, and it extends into the relationships I have with my customers and the peers I interact with.

For the last three years I've been heavily involved with Wild at Heart in Colorado. Some of the stories we hear from men using the tools I build for that ministry are quite special. Loveology.org also deserves a special mention as it too is having a positive impact on relationships.

I'm a huge steak fan. Chateaubriand is my go-to, or an eye fillet. Sides would be mashed potato, broccoli and green beans. I'm not bad at cooking it myself, but Sarah and I do enjoy having a restaurant cook for us.

Most likely golf with Sarah, my oldest daughter Rebecca, or my dad. I do like a good walk with a view too.

I have a condition known as misophonia, where everyday sounds trigger intense negative emotions. Things like birds chirping near my window, or the washing machine whirring.

One I really struggle with is many voices and conversations at once in a small room with a low ceiling, which can make group discussions particularly challenging.
